The Executive Centre proudly supports Joshua Hellman Foundation Charity Dinner

The Executive Centre is pleased to announce its sponsorship for the Joshua Hellmann Foundation Gala Dinner on Wednesday October 8 at Gaia Ristorante, Hong Kong, in support of families coping with orphan diseases and to help aid research into treatment.

Orphan diseases are extremely uncommon mitochondrial disorders. They are so called because their rarity means that little research is carried out into them by drug companies and the wider medical community in general. As a result, sufferers and their families are disadvantaged because pharmaceutical companies are unlikely to develop drugs to treat them, and there is little doctors can do with the resources available to them today.

Joshua Hellman suffered from MELAS syndrome, a type of orphan syndrome that currently has no known cure. After a courageous 5-year battle, Joshua passed away in 2007. In 2008, the foundation was set up by his mother, Christina Hellmann-Ipsaryaris, to help raise awareness of the illness.

Wednesday’s gala dinner will feature guest speakers, charity auctions and musical performances in order to raise funds for greater research into orphan diseases in general, and MELAS syndrome in particular.

Paul Salnikow, Chairman and CEO of The Executive Centre said, “Since the foundation was formed, much has been achieved, and slowly diseases such as MELAS are getting the recognition they deserve. But there is still a lot to do. By pledging our support, we can all help drive the change that is needed to understand orphan diseases in Hong Kong. Organisations like the Joshua Hellmann Foundation help patients get the correct diagnosis and ultimately lead to better care and treatment. That’s why we are proud to give our support.”
